24-Hour Holter Monitor Test for Continuous Heart Rhythm Monitoring
A portable ambulatory ECG test continuously recording your heart’s electrical activity while you go about your normal daily routine, sleep, and physical activities.
Open 24 Hours • Supervised by Senior Cardiologist Dr. Amulya Patil • Kharghar, Navi Mumbai
Holter Monitor at a Glance
Ambulatory recording delivers actionable cardiac rhythm clarity that a conventional short ECG cannot capture.
Continuous Ambulatory ECG
Records every single heartbeat continuously for 24 to 48 hours or longer, without interruption.
Normal Everyday Activities
Lightweight, portable device worn comfortably during work, exercise, daily commutes, and overnight sleep.
Symptom & Diary Correlation
Directly correlate moments of palpitations, dizziness, or chest flutter with real-time electrical telemetry.
100% Non-Invasive Procedure
Simple medical skin-adhesive electrodes attached painlessly to the chest with no needles or electrical discharge.
Intermittent Arrhythmia Catch
Detects fleeting cardiac rhythm disturbances that routinely escape routine 10-second hospital ECG checkups.
Specialist Clinical Review
Supervised and evaluated by Senior Consultant Cardiologist Dr. Amulya Patil with formal reporting.
Holter Monitor vs Standard ECG
A standard ECG gives an instantaneous snapshot. A Holter Monitor provides an continuous documentary of your cardiac electrical health.
A standard ECG is extremely useful for assessing the heart's electrical activity at the time it is performed. However, some rhythm disturbances occur only occasionally. For example, a person may experience palpitations once or twice during the day but have a normal rhythm during a brief ECG appointment.
| Diagnostic Feature | Standard Resting ECG | Holter Ambulatory Monitor |
|---|---|---|
| Recording Duration | Short snapshot (10 to 60 seconds) | Continuous 24 Hours, 48 Hours, or Extended |
| Recording Environment | Clinical clinic / hospital bed | Everyday life, office, commuting, gym & home |
| Device Portability | Large stationary multichannel machine | Pocket-sized, battery-operated wearable device |
| Sleep Monitoring | Usually Not Monitored | Yes, continuous overnight sleep surveillance |
| Intermittent Arrhythmia Capture | Likely to miss fleeting abnormalities | High clinical probability of capturing episodes |
| Patient Diary Correlation | Not applicable | Matches logged physical symptoms with telemetry |
Why Is a Holter Monitor Test Done?
When cardiac symptoms come and go intermittently, Holter monitoring allows physicians to view heart electrical dynamics over an extended timeline.
- Palpitations: Racing, fluttering, pounding, or skipped heartbeats.
- Unexplained Syncope: Investigating unexpected fainting spells or dizziness.
- Suspected Intermittent Arrhythmias: Tachycardia, Bradycardia, or AFib.
- Cardiac Medication Efficacy: Verifying rhythm response to anti-arrhythmic drugs.
- Pacemaker & Device Checks: Monitoring electrical pacing and capture.
How Does a Holter Monitor Test Work?
A seamless non-invasive procedure designed to fit naturally into your standard daily routine.
Step 1 — Clinical Setup
Our diagnostic technician reviews referral notes, cleans skin electrode sites, and instructs you on device care.
Step 2 — Electrode Placement
Adhesive bio-compatible sensor electrodes are positioned on specific chest points and connected to leads.
Step 3 — Wear the Monitor
The lightweight recorder sits comfortably on a shoulder strap or belt while recording 100,000+ heart beats.
Step 4 — Maintain Diary
Log exact times of activities (climbing stairs, sleeping) and any symptoms (chest flutter, dizziness).
Step 5 — Device Return
After 24 or 48 hours, return to our centre where our team cleanly detaches the electrodes and retrieves data.
Step 6 — Cardiologist Review
Digital telemetry is analysed through algorithmic workstations and reported by Dr. Amulya Patil.
Pre-Requisites & Dos and Don'ts
Preparation for Holter monitoring is simple, but adhering to the following rules ensures uninterrupted data collection.
Recommended (DOs)
- Fasting: No fasting required. Eat and drink normally.
- Clothing: Wear comfortable, two-piece, loose clothing for easy chest electrode fitting.
- Bathing: Take a bath or shower immediately before your fitting appointment, as the equipment cannot get wet.
- Medications: Continue all your standard prescribed medicines unless explicitly stopped by your cardiologist.
- Symptom Log: Accurately write down timings of any dizziness, palpitations, or stress episodes.
Strictly Avoid (DON'Ts)
- Water Exposure: Do NOT shower, take a bath, or swim while wearing the monitor.
- Electric Blankets: Avoid sleeping with high-voltage electric heating blankets (may cause electrical artifacts).
- Metal Detectors: Avoid passing through industrial metal detectors or security body wands.
- Tampering: Do not pull the sensor lead wires or attempt to open the battery door.
- Removing Electrodes: If an electrode peels off slightly, press the edges firmly back onto skin.
