Ultrasound is the safest and most cost-effective first-line imaging tool for abdominal, pelvic, and pregnancy evaluations. CT scan is necessary for chest, lung, bone, and emergency trauma imaging where cross-sectional detail is critical.
For soft-tissue organs (liver, kidneys, gallbladder, uterus), ultrasound provides excellent diagnostic information and is often the first choice. However, for lungs, bones, and complex anatomy, CT is far superior and provides more detailed cross-sectional imaging.
