MRI is the first choice for soft-tissue anatomical imaging, especially brain, spine, and musculoskeletal conditions. PET-CT is indispensable for cancer staging, treatment monitoring, and whole-body oncological evaluation. In complex cancer cases, both modalities may be used together.
For specific cancers (brain, liver, pelvic), whole-body MRI with diffusion-weighted imaging can be an alternative. However, PET-CT remains the gold standard for most oncological staging and treatment response assessment.
